Moment #2: Levine, Somers blast into school history

Finally, our ever-winding countdown finds its final resting place: May 31st. The setting for the No. 2 moment on our list is little Reis Park in Somers, the temporary home of the top-seeded Tuskers.
This was an interesting game from the outset. Two pitchers were armed and ready to pitch, albeit on short rest, and both teams were fighting to craft a seminal moment in their history.
Somers went with its junior, Dan ”$$$” Tracy, who had pitched a complete game in every start, including a win over defending state champion Lourdes just three days before. Pearl River turned to its No. 2, Stephen Putnick, for the start, but it was the specter of Sean Giblin that hung over the proceedings. He, too, had thrown a complete game three days prior, beating Beacon ace Sean Lucas in the quarterfinals. Now it was a matter of how much Giblin could pitch, and if the Pirates would still be in position to win when he did.
Tracy started strong and gave Somers the lead, but Pearl River mounted a comeback after Giblin entered in relief. The Pirates assumed a 3-2 lead into the middle of the seventh behind four shutout frames from their ace.
In the seventh, it all changed. The game was tied, then was capped with two outs by the single biggest base hit of the Section 1 baseball season  Mike Levine’s walk off two-run homer that won the Tuskers their first championship, 5-3.
As Jake said in his post that day, there was nothing to fret about for Pearl River, even though coach Bruce Miller came within an eyelash of his first championship. The Pirates went down with their very best  probably Section 1’s very best  on the hill in the final inning. Levine (seen above hitting the decisive homer) just came through at the right time.
So everyone…what’s No. 1???
Here’s what we have so far:
No. 10: Shutout Thursday  four clubs on playoff bubble win by shutout
No. 9: Mamaroneck sweeps through Section 1  the Tigers finish regular season 19-0 vs. Section 1
No. 8: Keio seniors bid adieu  on their last day in America, the Unicorns nearly win Class C state title
No. 7: Nyack honors Siegiest with tournament sweep  Indians name their field after former coach and win the tournament in thrilling fashion
No. 6: Sean Giblin signs pro contract with the Pirates
No. 5: Salem shuts door as Iona Prep wins another division crown
No. 4: North Rockland upsets ace
No. 3: Raad cuts down Pine Plains at home
No. 2: Levine beats Giblin with winning HR, wins Somers its first championship ever
Let’s hear your best guesses. I’ll reveal the top moment of the season later this afternoon…

insists that Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are the best by far. Josh
graduated from Carmel High School in 1998, then went to Boston University,
where, in 2002, he received a degree in communications with a minor in
history.
Jake Thomases has covered baseball, hockey, girls basketball, and girls soccer for the Journal News since arriving in 2003. He previously interned at The Poughkeepsie Journal while attending Vassar College. He is socking money away under his mattress to buy the Knicks, at which time he will trade Jerome James to Cleveland for a ham sandwich.

I believe moment number 1 is Fox Lane vs. Carmel. For anyone who was at the 4 hour game, they will tell you it was one of the best games they have ever seen.
this should of been number one
