Just heard from Stepinac coach Pat Duffy. His ace, RHP Greg Caruso, committed to American International College, a Division II school in New England. Caruso earned a scholarship there.
Caruso will eventually join his old catcher Anthony Arrichiello, who is at AIC now. Arrichiello was The Journal News’ second-team all-star catcher last season.
As I mentioned in the Maruri story, this caps a great offseason for the Crusaders, who had all three of their senior captains receive scholarships. It also leads me to think about next season, when they may be the favorites over Iona, Mount and Fordham to win the Bronx-Westchester. Having a good No. 1, a good SS, and a good No. 3 hitter is a nice foundation.

Josh Thomson has done some of everything since joining The Journal News in
March 2003. He began working for the Gannett weeklies during the winter of
2002 as a freelance writer. He joined the daily staff soon after and has
since covered various high school and pro sports. Away from sportswriting,
Josh lives in Westchester and spends his free time either with his
fiancee, Sarah, or expertly managing his various championship-winning
fantasy sports teams. He's visited 21 major-league baseball stadiums and
insists that Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are the best by far. Josh
graduated from Carmel High School in 1998, then went to Boston University,
where, in 2002, he received a degree in communications with a minor in
history.
Jake Thomases has covered baseball, hockey, girls basketball, and girls soccer for the Journal News since arriving in 2003. He previously interned at The Poughkeepsie Journal while attending Vassar College. He is socking money away under his mattress to buy the Knicks, at which time he will trade Jerome James to Cleveland for a ham sandwich.

Congratulations Frank, I knew this kid since the time he was 10. He was one of the few players from outside of New Rochelle to play in our league. When he played for your team you felt secure when he played against you he could hurt you in so many ways.New Rochelle mainly used him as a pitcher and a s.s., he was one of the most dominant pitchers in the New Rochelle youth Baseball league. When he was 12 he must have had 12 dingers at pinebrook park. After that he disappeared,We got a chance to see him again 2 years ago.In a summer game against us at Rec Park in port chester,he hit a ball that went clear over the centerfield fence to win the game. During a fall game at city park in N.R.he threw out 3 of our baserunners.Time flies, its been a pleasure watching you play.Good Luck at Oneonta.Your New Rochelle teammates.
Hey Josh sounds like the CHSAA is still pumping out the players going Div.1. Lets see if they can top the 8 kids who went Div 1 from Iona and Fordham prep. Maruri can flat out hit. Might be a player without a position though. He has to work on speed and make the move to the outfield. He will hit in college no doubt.
