it now scores touchdowns!
OK, not really. But for anyone interested, I watched the New Jersey non-public football championship game on MSG on Sunday, a game played between Don Bosco and St. Peter’s at Giants Stadium. Hudson Valley 3B Steve Proscia scored twice for Bosco, once on a reception and again on an interception return, and helped his team win 42-14. You can check out the Bergen Record’s story about the game here.
Anyway, I didn’t just check in to mention Proscia’s exploits on the football field. I also have a couple tidbits of news.
First, Regis CF Tony Negrin committed to LaSalle. Negrin, who goes to high school in Manhattan but lives in New Ro, helped Regis reached the CHSAA A Division city championship game. Congrats to him.
Also, Port Chester’s Jesse Burba has narrowed his choices to Iona and St. Rose and should decide this month.
Other than that, there’s not too much to report. If anyone wants to alert me to potential news, drop me an e-mail at jthomson@lohud.com.

rye’s head coach resigned and then a new one was named how come there is no respect for rye, they finally won their first playoff game in over 7 years
baseball fan…Are you saying I should’ve mentioned the change or that the coach should have stayed on? I’m confused.
I noticed a month or so ago you mentioned a school getting a new coach after their coach retired or resigned. I know Rye hasn’t been great but I think schools should know whats going on with the baseball programs. That could give us something, hype, respect.
What are our other ESG players up to now that there’s no baseball around?
Why does everyone on this board suck off the ESG players…there are other good players out there besides them
No one is paying undue attention to anyone. The Journal News was a major sponsor in the ESG this year as it was held locally thus the extensive coverage of the games and players. This has never been the case in the past. I believe the take is that these are the players they know about since there is no coverage of other events nor are there other events locally that involve top players. If you look at the next blog, Josh has attempted to let you know who Perfect Game lists as the next group to gain attention locally. These lists will be updated by Perfect Game sometime this month to reflect the late summer and fall development.
On another note, I think they done a good job of listing and researching the players that have signed/committed. The 08’ committment class is small for this area as compared to the last 2 or 3 years. This is not all due to talent but the NCAA rule changes have played a major part so far. Hopefully things will heat up for the others come spring time.
Last Summer in Port Chester we ran a very competitive 18u Tournament called the BATTLE OF THE BORDER with many of the top players in NY & CT.Hopefully this year we will get some more great coverage for the kids.We had many colleges attend and there was some great talent represented. Here is some of the teams that played
NY9 Futures Team
NY9 Scout Team
NY Crush
New Rochelle NR/Iona/Regis
Harrison Babe Ruth Team Babe Ruth World series team
Stamford CT Babe Ruth World Series Team
Norwalk Ct CT HS State Champions

This year we will be running it once again and we are expecting to bring some great talent toghether for a local tournament. And Congrats to Tony Negrin who was one of our all-tournament team players.
Any idea of the dates? Who may be attending?
We will post the date very soon, but it will be right around July 4th again.
What was the outcome of this tournament?

Oh wow. Is the NY Nine organization really that good? Some of these other teams advanced very far in national tournaments but the Nine pummeled them. How do they compare to organizations like the Bayside Yankees?
They are as good if not better than bayside. They split with bayside during the season.
I don’t think so!!! not even close.
NY NINE isn’t even close to an organizaton that Bayside has become. Both the Seniors and National teams beat the NY Nine teams several times…with the NY9 Scout team only winning once. They have along way to go..and if anyone says that the NY9 is better they are obviously biased..or just jealous of Bayside. Dont get me wrong the NY9 is a fine organization with several quality players..but just not a Bayside..You ask people across the nation about Bayside and they know what your talking about…the NY Nine doesnt even come close to having that repuation.
Bayside should get a team in that tourney and show what they have. It sounds like there was alot of talent there. The Stamford team and the Norwalk team are real good if the Nine beat them that bad, they must be real good.
What local players play for the New York Nine?

Scout Team 2007’====Almost every player mentioned had committed to the college before ever playing for the Nine. They played less the 10 games.
Fall 06’ almost every player listed played for another team during the recruiting process and played for the Nine after. They played less then 10 games and did not return to the team for the summer season. Henry, Lucas, Frabasile, O’Hagen, Zollo, Fondu, Cucchiarella
The 07’ Teams and the summer 06’ teams were their true players. These are “NINE” players.
Bayside is similar in that their American team is comprised of players from all over the country who have already made their school decisions. The NAtional is the home grown kids that have progressed through the organizations.
These teams are all in it for the right reasons. To play against town teams or legion teams and try to make a comparison is unfair to those teams. Their demographics are restricted
Bayside- Est. 1982
NY Nine- Est. 2005
That’s a huge part of “national recognition”
NY Nine- Est. 2006*
The issue between the New York Nine and the Bayside Yankees is somewhat jaded here I think. The battle between the two organizations should happen on the field (and they do, at all of the age levels). The bickering off the field is sometimes uncalled for and unwanted.
Bayside is a nationally reknowned, excellent and well respected program. They feature some of the best players in the country and have sent hundreds of kids to play at the next level.
The New York Nine is a newly formed organization who competes at the same high-level of competition during the summer and has an excellent, albeit young, track record of players.
While the two organizations are both excellent, it is difficult to compare the two. Both organizations have similar intentions, to win as many championships as they can and to send as many kids as they can to college and professional ranks. Both organizations have been very successful in doing so in each of their respective ways.
From my personal experience, the New York Nine provides everything that a player asks for in an organization. High quality competition, an intense national travel schedule, grueling workout programs and a place where top-level prospects from the tri-state area can compete together. This coming year will be my third year of involvement with the organization and I have nothing but positives to say about it.
The New York Nine also provides a home for players from all financial backgrounds. The organization pulls from top level schools in the area such as George Washington HS and Monroe HS in New York City. The mix of financial differences and ethnic backgrounds help get the players accustomed to the ethnic mix of baseball, and life beyond the game.
I encourage everyone to look up more about each organization before making claims as to who is better. The New York Nine has an excellent winter workout program, which info for can be found at http://www.newyorknine.org.
Bayside is a top-notch classy organization who is one of the best in the country. The games against them are always fun and competitive. I’m sure if the Nine’s front office people were to read this blog, they would have the same praises for Bayside. But I would say that in the end, the argument between who is a better organization should be left off the Internet and kept solely to the ball field.
Both the New York Nine and Bayside Yankees are highly respected organizations and therefore neither should be put down on any blog. Over the past years, both the NY 9 and Bayside Yankees have produced dozens of high quality players, so that should not even be discussed. Having played for the New York Nine, I can speak personally that the organization and all the coaches/players are the finest I’ve played for/with. Since joining the Nine in 2006, I’ve developed into a much more mature player, finessed my game and had the opportunity to play with some of the best tri-state players around. Thanks to the wonderful coaching staff and organizational leaders, I’ve been exposed to the highest quality baseball around. Being in the Northeast makes it difficult to be seen by scouts from all over, however, by playing for the Nine, I’ve gained vast national exposure. Being that I have only played for the New York Nine, I cannot speak for the Bayside organization, and I have nothing positive or negative to say about them. But, I’m certain that in a few years when I look back to where I played baseball in the summer, I know that I will not regret being apart of the New York Nine organization.

I wanted to add that I wish the best to all the New York Nine and Bayside Yankees players and i would like to apologize to those who find this addition to the blog to be abrasive. It is not meant to be that way.
I agree.
And for those for believe that The NEW YORK NINE is not good,or wasn’t good, have serious problems.
During the summer of 2006 when I pitched for them, I had the best experience playing fast-lane/competitive summer baseball, while gaining MAXIMUM exposure to dozens of Division ONE coaches
But losing to the Bayside Yankees TWICE that summer sucked the most
NY NINE FO’ LIFE!!!!!!!
ps…Ian Millman is the M-A-N!!!!!
when r the schedules coming out 4 the 2008 season
The CHSAA schedules are up here
http://chsaabaseballupdate.homestead.com/SKED.htm
The head coach of the NY9 is probably the best coach in the state hands down. Ian Millman puts many student athletes in to college, including myself to a highly respected D1. Not only does Ian look out for you as his player on the field but also off the field. He will now be a life long friend even if baseball does one day come to an end.He has not only made me to D1 college athlete, but also the person I am today. So to all you people who believe that bayside is the organization that puts athletes in to college your wrong. For as many athletes as Mark Cuesta put in to college, double the amount have turned to quit baseball because of his dictatorship acts. In talking with many college coaches the bayside yankee program is frowned upon because of their dictator coach’s childish actions all across the nation in these “elite” tournaments. Ian Millman is in this game all for the kids! He wants no recognition, just for his players to pursue a better education and have a chance to play at a higher level. So pay your thousands of dollars in to the Bayside program every summer and fall, and when it comes time for your son to be recruited your money will go straight to a boy from FL or NC to be flown in to pitch or play and take your son’s spot.
ian millman also is complete you know what
a complete what?
Mike – Obviously your son did not make the cut for BY..sour grapes. BY is a great organization and I dont know many players who have quit because of Cuseta. While many may not like Cuseta…they all respect his knowledge of baseball and his ability to put together one of the top 5 college prospect teams in the country. Cuseta receives many many many calls from College coaches when they are looking for players because they know that he knows talent.
Just look at his 2007 graduating class and see where his players are now…some of the best D1’s in the country.
BY Fan- I have a great deal of respect for The Bayside Yankees. Just wanted to point out to you that if my suspicions are correct, you are really way off base with who “Mike” is.
i am just concerned about favoritism in by. the kids are not given equal playing time an this is not fair. afterall, everybody is paying the same amount of money
this is the dumbest argument. BY is clearly the most elite organization in the northeast and one of the best in the country. look at their tremendous list of professional and college alumni, there amazing schedules every year, and the amount of national championships they have won. as for cuseta, he is one of the most respected coaches in the country, he has the trust of every college coach, and although he is not the best people person, knows what he is talking about and will put the good players in a college where they belong. and by the way, at this level, coaches are not concerned about equal playing time. the players that perform will pay because they give the team the best chance of winning.
