A Grab Bag

I have a few different topic to touch on, so grab what you like:
3B Steve Proscia was a first-team all-America on the Collegiate Baseball News list. You can see the complete list here.
The rankings I mentioned the other day are also posted. You can check them out here.
I made a mistake a few months ago. I meant to post this, but it was lost in the endless pile of e-mails in my inbox.
Pelham C Zach Small decided to go to Johns Hopkins in December, when he was accepted there early decision. His coach Jack Plunkett told me Zach, who was an ESG alternate last summer, was recruited by some Division I schools. Obviously, going to college at Hopkins played a major role in swaying him to play ball there.
Former Stepinac knuckleballer Matt Casino made the team at Iona as a walkon, and I just wanted to pass that along as well.
Lastly, I know I know nothing about baseball according to some, but here’s my two cents on the Class AA rankings: Mamaroneck may not play in the toughest league (League I-C and I-B are definitely deeper), but the Tigers proved their superiority vs. League I-C last season. Yes they lost to Carmel when it counted, but look at this: Mamaroneck went 2-1 vs. League I-C and 2-0 vs. League I-B. It also lost just three starters, but retained its top pitcher and Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5 hitters. Can the Tigers lose in the playoffs again? Sure. But these are pre-preseason rankings. Remember that.

Josh Thomson has done some of everything since joining The Journal News in
March 2003. He began working for the Gannett weeklies during the winter of
2002 as a freelance writer. He joined the daily staff soon after and has
since covered various high school and pro sports. Away from sportswriting,
Josh lives in Westchester and spends his free time either with his
fiancee, Sarah, or expertly managing his various championship-winning
fantasy sports teams. He's visited 21 major-league baseball stadiums and
insists that Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are the best by far. Josh
graduated from Carmel High School in 1998, then went to Boston University,
where, in 2002, he received a degree in communications with a minor in
history.
Jake Thomases has covered baseball, hockey, girls basketball, and girls soccer for the Journal News since arriving in 2003. He previously interned at The Poughkeepsie Journal while attending Vassar College. He is socking money away under his mattress to buy the Knicks, at which time he will trade Jerome James to Cleveland for a ham sandwich.
