Baseball in the Lower Hudson Valley

Clarkstown South tourney is on

May
3

Rain forced Clarkstown South to cancel all but one of its four opening round games. All are being made up today, as well as all the second rounders. That’s seven games in one day. Which is sort of appropriate for a tournament that packs as much great baseball as possible into three days. The action began this morning and will continue through 7:15 p.m. Games are at the high school and Zukor Park (Germonds Park is being occupied by someone else). If you want to see some state powerhouses playing locally, there’s no better place than the Northeast Elite tournament. For matchups and times visit South’s website. Click the tournament link to find out more about the participating teams.

On a completely separate note, reader Greg pointed out that Section 5 releases state rankings after the New York Sportswriters do. So if you can’t wait until next week, check them out here. However, I can’t vouch for where these come from. It may be some guy in Rochester with Cheeto dust on his shirt picking names out of a hat. At least the NYSWA gets input from local coaches. It’s a flawed system, but we know there’s a little rhyme or reason to it.
