Fordham-Mount? Not for me

May
7

Well, I made a mistake today. Fordham Prep and Mount didn’t start until 7 p.m., which I found out when I arrived at Fordham around 4, only to see the Fordham U. guys on the field. It was a bummer.

In search of a game and with no time to spare, I hiked it up to Hastings to see the two-time Class B champs (at least what’s left of them) take on Sleepy Hollow. The game was won, surprisingly, by the Headless Horsemen, who took their fourth of the season behind a complete game from ace lefty Matt Vallo. The senior southpaw went the distance, stranding the bases loaded in the seventh to preserve a 4-3 win.

Before I go write my story, here’s quite the stat: Vallo has now won all four games for Sleepy this year.

It is really nice to see just how much the Sleepy Hollow team is enjoying their season. It is such a relaxed atmosphere. Who cares about hitting or fielding or winning and losing as long as you are having fun. I heard a rumor that team members get to call the AD and Board if they don't get an at bat in the game. The win agaist Hastings just made the season, maybe the team can take the rest of the season off (just let the AD and Board know. (it won't be a problem).

Hey I'm on the Board there. Who didn't get an at bat? Get the coach on the phone.. Your Fired!!!!!

  4. Hollow Fan

Who went to the beach last season instead of the Sectional Playoff game?

Why won't anyone tell us why Coach Jim Mcveigh was fired from Sleepy Hollow this year…...Was the coach really told to "play someone" a minimum amount of time ? Who was the player and who made the decisions..Scarpula the AD or some "Board Member".

Try talking to the school maybe they will shed some light or if Josh wants to check with the AD. Bottom line is the coach was asked to sign a document specifying playing time for a particular player as long as that player met certain requirements spelled out in the document. The meeting was held because the player was told he was not welcome on the team his senior year after letting his teammates down his junior year. The spin I saw on this blog a couple of months ago was that everyone agreed to the deal and then the Coach refused to sign. I find it hard to believe that any Coach would have ever agreed to such a ludicrous request. The player is not important even though the players parents should be embarassed to even go to bat for him under such circumstances.

Why does Jonathan Rodriguez show up in the Sleepy Hollow team stats? Wasn't he a senior last season??

  8. baseball guy

Rodriguez is a senior this year, but can't play because he is 19.

  9. ???

if he can't play, then why is listed with max preps as having 10 at bats in 5 games this year with Sleepy….says he batted once vs Hastings the last game?

  10. hollow

yonaton rodriguez was an all-section shortstop last year. jonathon rodriguez is an outfielder, who plays this year

Who is the player who was responsible for Coach McVeigh's forced resignation? Sunlight is the best disinfectant…...What's all the secrecy about?
Even excellent players get bashed out here…..If someone decided to blow off a playoff game and then pursues it to the point of having the coach fired, why not name names? Obviously Scarpula the AD and the Pricipal would not back McVeigh against this family..

I don't think talking to the school will shed any light on the situation at Sleepy Hollow HS…...That is what this blog is for…To shed some light and disinfect some dirty goings on….If coach McVeigh was fired for not agreeing to play some kid after the kid went to the beach last year during a section 1 playoff game…Name the kid and the apparently "important" family who was able to make Scarpula (Sleepy AD) and the Sleepy Administration collapse? To tell a coach someone "will" play in writing or you're fired is something the public should know more about…
