Baseball in the Lower Hudson Valley

John Jay stinks (in lacrosse that is)

May
8

Yeah yeah, so John Jay still has the best lacrosse team in Section 1. But for a day at least, John Jay lacrosse has fallen behind John Jay baseball. The Indians boys lacrosse team lost to Rye today, 9-8 in double overtime. It was an all-around shocker for a team that hadn’t lost to anyone in Section 1 in two years.

Only the baseball team is perfect against Section 1 now. It’s 11-1 overall (compared to 10-3 for lacrosse). The loss was to Stepinac, and that just barely. Next week’s double header against Somers should tell a lot.

Josh and I are reveling in this turn of events, as it gives us a leg up in our running battle with local sports editor and lacrosse afficionado Joe Lombardi. Hooray!

    jj beat scars. 11-3

    A. Filauro hit a bomb! Hit the middle of the scoreboard at Scarsdale. As John Sterling would say, "it was as high as it was far". Well over the 370 ft mark. Easily over 400 ft. So much for John Jay bang box HR's.

  3. Whoa

Alan is the best catcher in Section 1.

  4. jfk

idk i think anthony corona and tim panetta would have something to say about that

  5. jj baseball

yeah, they would say " I completely agree"

  6. hsbaseballfan

They are certainly both very good catchers but Alan is over 6' tall and has every bit of skill that they have. Probably a better arm too which is saying something because they are very good but he is a stud. Plays fullback and MLB on the football team too. I don't see either of those guys out on gridiron. They can't be over 5'9". That will certainly limit them and it's a shame too because they are good. I know I know, Yogi was only 5'8", but that was a different era.

  7. jfk

idk if hed would if he knew corona was batting 100 points higher than him…...filauro: 340 corona:444

  8. The Truth

Some kids mature (and peak) early. You cannot teach size and strength. Alan has always been good but the other two got the recognition. He is hard to hide now. The kid is also a football star and could easily start on the basketball team if he wanted to. Do the other two guys play any other sports? What kind of athletes are they? I'm not sure they have the same upside. Though I do agree they are good. I've seen all three up close. Alan gets my vote.

  9. hsbaseballfan

Nobody said Corona can't play. He certainly can. It's more about projectability. Alan is a stud. Has size, power, arm and pop time.

  10. hsbaseballfan

He can also run. He's a running back for gods sake. How many good catchers can run?

  11. Paul C

SO HOW DOES GREEN DO BETTER THAN HIS 1.32 ERA AS A FRESHMAN.

WELL HOW ABOUT AN ERA OF .96 AND 56 K'S IN 29 INNINGS ONLY AVG 1.93 STRIKEOUTS PER INNING. AND A 6-0 RECORD. SO NEXT YEAR AS A JR HOW WILL HE IMPROVED ON THOSE NUMBERS? I GUESS AN ERA OF .50 OR LESS AND GETS THAT STRIKEOUTS PER INNING TO CLOSER TO 2.25.

THEN SR YEAR 0 ERA AND STRIKEOUTS 3 PER INNING.

ALL BASEBALL FANS NEED TO WATCH THIS KID BECAUSE HE WILL EASILY BE THE BEST PITCHER OUT OF WESTCHESTER EVER!!!!!!! OH YA THE LEFTY IS 6 FT TALL

  12. gametime

at the game today, scarsdale was equipped with a gun, he was hitting 90-91…impressive to say the least

  13. hsbaseballfan

And Hagan, Dearwester and a couple of the other Mamaroneck boys stopped by to see what they are up against. They also saw Filauro's bomb.

  14. Dude

Hopefully the JJCR coach keeps scheduling like he has. Green will never lose. OH they will have to play varsity teams in sectionals. AA. It's also nice to hear that a JJCR player hit a HR away from the schools softball field

  15. league -C fan

JJCR must have some strength and conditioning program…..and a few GNC stores near the HS!

  16. league c

how many players on kennedy play wiyh the clippers or the rangers??this seems like just an extension of summer ball.b-schools must be upset

  17. Seriously

    Paul C

Dude, you need to stop with with the Steve Green stuff, its bad enough when players hype themselves. Unless your name is Paul C Green you need to find someone else to idolize or go talk to someone. Maybe take someone to the prom, preferably female!

  18. baseball

    Green?

Nyack, Port Chester, Harrison, and Scarsdale? lol…I'll give you Fox Lane but even they are down this year but come on. Those teams dont hit the ball in soft toss drills, what a wonderful job by the coach bringing the kid along slowley!

    Paul C,
    Oh never mind!

  19. Dude

He was schedule to start the Kieo game and the V team game that he won 42-0 against someone with no name. this is all good stuffffffffff. matbe they should have schedule peekskill, lakeland could only score 22 against them. the lakeland schedule is ajust a much a joke

  20. Section 1 Fan

This kid Green is for real

  21. Mr Happy

Yes and he lives in Brewster, played all his youth ball in Brewster. He plays with Taconic, maybe he should be at Kennedy. Why wasn't he recruited?

  22. Paul C

ONLY REASON I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING GREEN IS BECAUSE MY SON PLAYED LITTLE LEAGUE WITH HIM IN BREWSTER SINCE HE WAS SEVEN. I WATCHED HIM WIN BREWSTER THE NY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 7TH GRADE. HIS PARENT TEACHES AT JJ AND THAT IS WHY HE WENT THERE. FUN WATCHING SUCH A SOLID KID WITH GREAT PARENTS REALLY SUCEED AT SUCH AN EARLY AGE AT THE VARSITY LEVEL. LISTEN, THIS YEAR HE HASN'T PITCHED AGAINST THE BEST TEAM BUT A .96 ERA AGAINST CLASS A TEAMS IS HARD TO RIP APART. THIS IS NOT CLASS D WHERE THE QUALITY OF PLAY IS TERRIBLE. COME ON A LEFTY THROWING 90 WILL GET HIM DRAFTED. HOW MANY KIDS OUT OF WESTCHESTER CAN SAY THAT!

  23. Steve Green fan

50 percent of the time, steve green wins every time, thats a fact. He is by far the best pitcher in section 1 and i laugh in the face of anyone who disputes that. LAUGH I TELL YOU. He didnt go to JFK because he wants to play against some real competition unlike the teams JFK plays(westlake, byram hils,Irvington,Croton, pleasantville,) they play all those teams twice thats 10 easy wins thats not a real schedule
