  1. All SUNYAC

Congrats to former Mamaroneck High outfielder Mike Chiapparelli (coach Chap's son) a sophomore DH/OF at Oneonta for being named FIRST TEAM 2008 ALL-SUNYAC BASEBALL. Here is a link to the complete list below:

    http://www.sunyac.com/baseball/2008/All-SUNYAC.pdf

  2. Coach Vitti

Way to go Mikey Chap! We are very proud of you back in your hometown.

  3. R U Kidding me?

Are you kidding me? You will be talking about how Mamk was manhandled by Bosco? Who cares at this point. I think I speak for everyone when I say enough of the Mamareneck coverage, it is sickening, and they will choke again in sectionals as they have done for the last 40 years, except when Vasami paid to play at Mamaroneck (Rye Neck resident) so even their only championship is tainted with a bought player who did not live in the district. Now bloggers are talking about the coaches kid? Maybe the coaches at Mamk should just take a sabatical from the blog and stop promoting themselves, it is embarassing. Just call this the Mamaroneck blog. When it is all said and done, someone from 1-C or Suffern or North Rockland will be holding the section 1 championship trophy.

  4. Mamk fan

On saturday Mamaroneck (14-1) travels upstate to Albany to take on the top ranked team in Section 2 Columbia (13-5)

  5. HS BB FaN 1

games outside of your section do not count for your league sseding. How is the Mam'k catcher not playing for rye neck where his brother played? this is like ketcham vs jjef

  6. Mamk fan

Next saturday Mamaroneck will play 2 road games in 1 day. They visit league rival Scarsdale at 11:00 A.M. and then travel up to Clarkstown South for a 7:00P.M. night game. They will play anyone, anytime, anywhere. They just want to play.

  7. GaelFan

Mam'k deserves the applause. They will and have taken on all comers. No soft schedule and because of this they will contend for the title. They have a real nice group of kids on the team. Their hard work for years with Coach Chap is really showing.

  8. Great Kazoo

Keep promoting yourself, after all it is all about YOU and NOT the kids right?

  9. Josh Thomson

Kazoo…Actually, I'm on TV talking about the players and their teams. That's the idea. If you don't want to watch, don't watch.

  10. panther

actually, the mamaroneck catcher – Chris Dearwester should be at Rye Neck but left for Mam 2 days after not making the varsity at RN as a freshman which is also the year RN won the section -

  11. chello

    Hey Josh,
I am 99% sure that Great Kazoo was not talking about you. I think he was referring to a certain coach from the #1 ranked team who is all over the blogs and self promoting. But I am not sure.

  12. ENOUGH ALREADY!

Enough of Mam'k! They are a high school baseball team. Not a prestigious summer team… Not an All Star team… Not a college team… And not a professional team. Last year they crapped out badly in the first round of the Section 1 (not section 2, not NJ big league sections) tournament.

Enough of them already! I am tired of it! I am sure that any one else who is not a Mam'k fan or coach is as well!

  13. I am not kidding you

All of you say that Mamaroneck promotes itself on the blog but all i've heard this whole season is others bashing them for numerous reasons. Not once have they come on the blog boasting about themselves when they easily could. There is a reason the press promotes them, they don't ask for the attention… I think all the Mamaroneck haters are going to be in for a big surprise come sectional time and if they were smart, they would stop waking up the sleeping giant.

  14. Moishe

    Yentas!
    All of you!

  15. KC

    Josh,

Good show last night, but one of your lead ins on the blog was you were going to discuss if anyone in the Section had a chance to beat Kennedy in B. Since this never came up, I assume the answer is no. Can you provide your opinion on the blog. Thanks

  16. Baseball

Wow if thats true about the Mamk catcher then I guess Rye Neck made a huge mistake there.

  17. Coach

The Mamk Catcher- Chris Dearwester switched over to Mamk to play with the team that he has been playing with ever since he was 9. He was the only kid on that team from Rye Neck so he made the mature decision to leave his brothers shadow and be with the kids that he has been playing with his whole life and from what I can see it has worked out great for him.

  18. Panther Parent

It was probably the best decision of his life. He is such a great kid off the field and he has been the heart and soul of the team for the past few years. His brother pretty much broke every record there was over at Rye Neck in Football, Baseball, and Baseketball and he became the first athlete ever to make the all-academic teams for all three sports in the same year and he made all-state in all three sports in both his junior and senior years. The kid was an absolute stud and theres no way a little brother can live up to that. Not only has Chris Dearwester help bring back the baseball program at Mamaroneck into a powerhouse again, but he also turned around the football program at Mamaroneck too, leading them to a 7-3 overall record and coming out as one of the best linebackers to ever play there. He is now trying to do the one thing his brother never did accomplish, win a state championship, and even though he left us I wish him all the best because its hard to find a better kid and a better family for this to happen to.

  19. panther

I think Rye Neck has done just fine without dearwester. They haved played in the championship game four years in a row and won in 2005.

  20. panther

Jack Newton plays with the mam kids in the summer. he still goes to RN

  21. GaelFan

Chris is a great kid. Wonderfull family and yes his brother was pretty darn good too. He would make any parent proud and his parents have been great supporters of both RN and Mam'k.

  22. omg

"Chris Daerwester switched"? you make it sound like it was an option. Like Rye Neck kids have the option to go to either mamaroneck high school or rye neck high school (obviously they can't). IF his family did not pay the 15 thousand (or whatever it costs) to go to MHS then how is he in that high school? And if they did in fact pay this money for the last 4 years that means the Dearwesters paid about 60,000 dollars to go to MHS just for the baseball!!!! That does not speak well for their perspective on life. Basically from what I gather so far, the Mamk contingent have admitted that their starting catcher (I think) is a Rye Neck resident… NOT a mamaaroneck resident. So whatever Mamk does this year is again tainted, the same way it was tainted when Vasami (also a Rye Neck resident, who is arguably the best pleyer to come out of MHS) paid to come to Mamaroneck high school and won the section for the first time in like 50 years. And another Rye Neck resident takes a starting position away from a mamaroneck resident all in the name of winning.

  23. BBFAN21

Not being from Mamk myself, but watching them as often as I can, all you naysayers should put a lid on it. I've always enjoyed watching good area baseball, and this team does not dissapoint. They are a great team of talented, well coached kids. As for their catcher, Chris Dearwester, also a great kid, I hear his mother works in the school system at Mamk so they didn't pay a dime to send him to there. They also have another, very talented catcher waiting in the wings, who has on occassion catched this season. The sophmore is really good, maybe even better than Dearwester. I read these blogs on occasion and hear you bashing mamk, their kids and their coach. Chap is second to none in his dedication, knowlege of the game, and the effort he puts in to his program. As for the kids you bash, they don't just have one good pitcher, they have a talented core group that can be stacked-up against any team in the state. None of them toot their own horns. As for the Bosco game, and I was there, I know for a fact that the team was tight. Would they have won the game? No. But I would like to see this team of Juniors (and 2 sophmores) play a powerhouse team of recruited seniors at Bosco next year. I think it would be a different story. They lose nothing this year except Dearwester, and from what I see, his shoes will be filled very well. Good luck Mamk in the sectionals. You've earned the attention, win or lose.

  24. Who is bashing the kids?

I did not read one post saying anything about the kids on Mamk negative. They have a real good bunch of players. I think it was the coach that people were implying or flat out saying were immature and whiney.
As for Dearwester, I know for a fact that in most districts, you still have to pay even if your parent is employed in the district. I guess Mamk does not do that? Or just in certain cases? I still can't see how Mamk residents can be happy that an outsider from Rye Neck comes in to Mamk and takes away a starting position. I guess the other starters don't care, and the bench kids do? You know if Suffern Hockey did the same type of thing, Mamk would have a full scale investigation.
King for a day, Fool for a lifetime.

  25. GaelFan

Back off Chris. I had the privilage of coaching him a few times. He's a class kid. His mom does work in the district so that's his option. No different then Steve Green (Brewster)who's parents work in the JJCR district. It makes things easier for parents. I'm sure as a freshamn they were not woriied about him taking someone's spot. He didn't transfer in, he was there from the start and earned his spot.
Steve is another great kid who may not ne the leader Chris is but he can defintely hold his own against anyone.

  26. phattyy

    to OMG
    that comment was just pathetic
you really have no clue what you are talking about. Just another jealous blogger that writes on every mamaroneck blog.

  27. Baseball admirer

The switching of schools happen all the time. Most districts do not have the parents pay if they work in the district. South this year lost Pisano to North because his uncle is the coach there. Next year two players from the North basketball team are transfering to South to play because they know that South will be better. As a parent of an athlete from South I get mad that many players are taking away postions from South Athletes. South basketball team will have only four openings and now two will be filled by seniors transferring schools. This should not be allowed.

  28. Section 1 Fan

Josh, you should really do a story on this and maybe find out what the real deal is with Dearwester

  29. Da Bears

Why not find out what the story is with Green? Why isn't he at Brewster

  30. bb

his parents teach at john jay

  31. lohud

and dearwesters mom works at mamaroneck…. there's nothing to find out
