Some game for Sorine

May
8

sorine.jpgSince I was glamming it up on TV, colleague Eric Lebowitz swung down to check out Eastchester vs. Edgemont, two teams we haven’t covered yet this year. The resurgent Eagles won in lopsided fashion, beating Edgemont 16-0.

Eastchester junior Dan Sorine had quite the afternoon — about the best turned in by any Section 1 player all season.

Get this — Sorine swatted three home runs and threw 5 1/3 no-hit innings before allowing a single to pinch-hitter David Rothschild. Sorine was lifted after the hit, but he certainly left an imprint on this one at bat and on the hill.

Eastchester hasn’t faced the best competition of late, but it has won six straight after going 1-8 in its first nine games. I don’t know what it means until the Eagles beat the Ryes and Pearl Rivers of the world, both of which are left on their schedule, but they’re worth watching the next couple weeks. Perhaps they can turn it around yet.

I'm sorry josh but the best day this year so far was Jack Newton of Rye Neck. 6 for 6 hit for the cycle and 9 rbi. It seems like you dont care/follow the small school. Maybe cover a smaller school game here and there instead of sucking everyone that goes to a AA school. Class C does have some fine players…just my 2cents

Greg…A) Rye Neck is not in Class C. B) I'm covering Keio-Rye Neck next Friday.

Here are the B and C schools we have already covered: Bronxville, Blind Brook, Dobbs, Valhalla, Briarcliff, Kennedy, Edgemont, Hastings, Nanuet, and Magnus, and I've written a notebook about Tuckahoe. We were also rained out of games including: Tuckahoe, Keio and Rye, and perhaps others I can't remember right now.

I know you don't know Jake or I personally, but we wish we could cover a game every day.

If you remember, I noted Newton's big day at the time. Sorine's was about as good as anyone's all year, which I still believe is true. Three HRs and 5.1 no-hit innings is pretty decent.

  3. MrBB

If the picture for this story is a home run trot, which I assume it is, can't help noticing the enthusiasm on the Eastchester bench?????

  4. hsbaseballfan

Maybe it was the third so they were bored? :o)

Dan is a very good player. I was waiting for him (and Eastchester) to break out.

  5. Hey MrBB

It was his 3rd if the game and it made it 15 0…... U dont want to show up the other team!

WOW! Sorine had an incredible day, both at the plate and on the bump. It's a great day no matter the opponent. HOwever, I was at the game for a short time, and I couldn't help but notcie that it was Miguel Nunez wearing Sorine's uniform the entire time.

As for MrBB, the Eastchester team didn't look very enthusiastic because they were still trying to figure out why Miguel Nunez was a) there b) taking sorine's place and c) so damn good.

  7. Enough

Stop with the stupid Nunez thing. Grow up and stop taking away a great moment for this kid Sorrine.

who the hell is miguel nunez…everybody needs to hop off him for like 10 min considering i have never heard of the kid doing anything productive this year, all everybody keeps saying is he is in florida for some showcase..nobody cares about him at all NOBODY so drop it.

All I know is that Tone Capone is the most complete baseball player ever, hes got the greatest stash that the ball field has seen since rollie fingers

  10. Eastchester = Class

One reason why the bench is still at the bench after the homer is this. ALWAYS, the players behaviors mimick the head coach. Don Cecere is a class coach… not a cheerleader who is constantly bantering and encouraging his team to waste their energy in the borderline trash talk that goes on on many teams. The kids can high five him in the dugout, there is no reason in the 3rd inning to run out there like it was a walkoff homer. Dom is not a head cheerleader in the 3rd base box bantering and questioning every ball strike call, and jumping up and down all game with no composure. Dom has class, and knows baseball and how it is supposed to be played, he is not a jokester clown in the third base box always crying and complaining and talking up a storm and trying to make the team all about himself. I think we all know a coach who DOES do that.
Dom Cecere will be missed when he decides to step down. It is great watching his teams play baseball, even when it is a down year. They play the game and behave the right way.

so walking out of the dugout to give their teammate a high five or i dont know have a smile on their faces actually would be SOOOOO out of line…give me a break.

  12. chello

Baseball guy, nobody said you can't give a guy a high five. But a whole team running out of the dugout to meet a guy at home plate hooting and hollering in the 3rd inning is ridiculous and embarrassing. Unfortunately not only do the kids do it, but some of the coaches condone it and actually take part in it. I think the point was that Cecere is a professional, the stupidity of a coach acting like a cheerleader, living and dying on every single pitch, questioning every darn call is a joke and embarrassing. It is no wonder that some coaches never reached a high level of coaching. Dom did, he was a pitching coach for a professional team. I don't think any professional program or any reputable college program would ever hire a clown/cheerleader coach.
Dom shows class and composure… 2 traits not seen in a whole lot of coaches in high school these days.

  13. Tone Capone has Quite A Mustache

I have to agree with TCFAN Tone Capone has the greatest mustache of all time. I go to sleep every night dreaming that I could have his mustache.

Guys im a player on the team…...... Have u ever heard of the silent treatment????? When Danny homered we decided to act like he did not even hit it, and act like we did not care. So dont judge a book by its cover saying that we should have a smile on our face unless u know the full story!!!! What do u think we were upset that he homered…. No! We were giving him the silent treatment… end of story!!!

  16. bluedevils

... goes to show how many REAL players and coaches are on this board… good job explaining it son .. silent treatment is pretty common in that situation..
