I was up at Carmel-Mahopac, but there were other developments in LoHud baseball tonight.
For Stepinac (above), it’s congratulations all around. The White Plains school clinched a share of the Bronx-Westchester division title by virtue of Iona Prep disappointing 5-2 loss to Salesian. The Crusaders have the tiebreaker, so even if they lose to Mount St. Michael in the regular-season finale they will be the top seed out of the division and earn some much-needed rest heading into the city tournament.
Over in Rye, RCDS earned a title of its own. The Wildcats beat St. Luke’s 3-0 behind yet another win from senior Evan Oleson and two RBI by Zach Tax and clinched the Fairchester regular-season championship for the first time since 1998. The last time they won the title, coach Ted Lawrence (right) was in his first season at the helm. … Now the cramped schedule begins for RCDS, which starts the NYSAIS tourney on Saturday and Sunday, then continues with the Fairchester tournament on Monday and Tuesday.

Has Stepinac clinched 1st place yet and the West/Bx chsaa title? I keep reading they have clinched only a share of the title ? and Stepinac has the tie break for the 1 seed in the playoffs…
If Stepinac loses to Mount tomorrow are they Co-Champions with Iona this year? Would the CHSAA actually award a co-championship to a team with the same overall league record as the #1 team despite have being beaten twice in head-to -head play against the #1 team…...Any clarification would be appreciated.
curve ball…Yes.
Josh Thomson…nice lazy answer
Thanks bud.
I don’t know what to say other than that if the teams have equal records they are considered co-division champs. It happened in 2005 and the teams were considered co-champs.
The tiebreaker comes into play for seeding. By virtue of the sweep, Stepinac earns the B/W No. 1 seed. Iona falls to No. 2.
Is that better? What else would you like to know?
haha love that response Josh.
Congratulations to Stepinac and also to Iona who had an unbelievable streak of division titles. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs.
So if the weather forces the schedule of the NYSAIS back a day or two, what is RCDS going to do?
Not a Mamaroneck resident but enjoy watching a good team when I can. Was great watching them clinch their division yesterday and in the process, give a team like Scarsdale a good spanking.
Just to clarify the co champs situation. The CHSAA only recognizes the champion after tie breakers. This year Stepinac is the Bronx – Westchester division champs. There is no such animal as co champ. In 2005 Stepinac, was the Bronx – Westchester champ. The only one recognizing co champs is the other team who are saying they are co champs. But in last four years Stepinac has just won it’s second division championship in baseball. Congratulations to both teams on a great year & good luck in playoffs.
