Two more terrific afternoons for Lakeland’s Brendan Hourihan and Iona’s Alex Adami. Sleepy LHP Matt Vallo won again, which is remarkable. He still has all of his club’s wins this year.
In team news, Mamaroneck came from behind to beat Fox Lane. John Jay-EF finished off the sweep against Carmel and won League I-C. Clarkstown North slowed down Pearl River.

St. John’s Prep 4, Sacred Heart 3, 8: In a CHSAA Divison B second round play off game at St. John’s Prep, Chris Kucharick allowed three runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks in the loss. Steven Kendrick had an RBI and a stolen base for the Irish. Sacred Heart plays at Monsignor Scanlan Saturday at 2 p.m.
Iona Prep 6, Mount St. Michael 0: In a second round CHSAA Division A playoff game at St. John’s University, L.J. Mazzilli and Alex Adami both went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run. Adami gave up one hit in the second inning to the Mountaineers Luis Alicea. The Gaels face Mount St. Michael again today at St. John’s University at noon.
Sleepy Hollow 2, Pleasantville 1: At Pleasantville, Jose Hidalgo hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that scored Englebert Gruilan with nobody out. Matt Vallo gave up five hits and recorded the win. Mike Marrone had a double and an RBI for the Panthers.
John Jay-East Fishkill 4, Carmel 1: At Dutchess Stadium in East Fishkill, Mike Volpe had an RBI.
Beacon 20, Peekskill 1: At Peekskill, Josh Gil scored a run.
Dobbs Ferry 13, Pawling 3: At Gould Park in Dobbs Ferry, Ryan Riefenhauser went 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. Joe Byrne had three hits, including a first-inning home run.
Kennedy 10, Eastchester 3: At Eastchester, Joe Smith was 3 for 4 with a home run, two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored for the Gaels. Teammate Joe Rock also hit a home run. Tony Panio had two RBI for the Eagles.
Horace Greeley 1, Pelham 0: In the championship of the Pelham tournament, Richie Giner batted in Jesse Zweibon with a sac fly in the fourth inning. Matt Keller had a double for the Pelicans.
Westlake 19, Pelham 12: At Pelham, Carl Dottore had a triple, a double and a single with four RBI and two runs for the Wildcats. Teammate Chris Yarrobino had two doubles, three RBI, three runs and a stolen base. Zach Small had a double, a run, and three RBI for the Pelicans.
Mamaroneck 5, Fox Lane 3: At Mamaroneck, Matthew McGovern drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a double in the bottom of the sixth inning. Taylor Mondshein was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Tigers. Tim Panetta was 2 for 3 with with a double, a home run and two RBI for the Foxes.
Lakeland 16, Ossining 4: At Ossining, Brendan Hourihan had a 3-run home run in the second inning and a 2-run home run in the fourth inning. Jake Seelig had a sixth inning solo home run for Ossining.
Albertus Magnus 18, Edgemont 1: At Edgemont, Andrew Plachecki was 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBI. Mike Fitzgerald also had a home run and three RBI for the Falcons. Adam Raymond was 3 for 3 with a triple and a run for Edgemont.
Clarkstown North 9, Pearl River 4: At Pearl River, Joseph Ferrara went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs for the Rams. Mike Davis had two base hits and two RBI for the Pirates.
Yorktown 11, Brewster 3: At Yorktown, Pete Racioppo, Brian Seiliber and Nick Rodriguez each one home run for the Cornhuskers. Racioppo had three RBI. Greg Galasso had one RBI for the Bears.

Jake Thomases has covered baseball, hockey, girls basketball, and girls soccer for the Journal News since arriving in 2003. He previously interned at The Poughkeepsie Journal while attending Vassar College. He is socking money away under his mattress to buy the Knicks, at which time he will trade Jerome James to Cleveland for a ham sandwich.

went to dutchees stadium tonite to watch briacliff vs keio. those Japanese kids are very entertaining and their desire to win is infectious. had briarcliff on the ropes, but jordan sacks was again very tough on the hill. a sophopmore , danny collins, , delivered the big hits for briarcliff.
Will Hagan and Avilas be pitching in the Mamaroneck game today?
What a terrible job by Pelham as, they didnt even show up for todays games a they couldnty buy a hit vs greely then they get smacked around by a bad westlake team, in front of a huge crowd.
