Mamaroneck had the toughest road to the finals. It won the most convincingly. Case closed.
Best team in the state by a healthy margin.

Keep in mind that kennedy lost their starting catcher (who was the league mvp) right before the playoffs, and although he was available for limted use as a DH, and finally coming back to catch in the State Final game... 1st baseman Luis gonzalez stepped up and did an excellent job, preserving kennedys run for the state title. I dont know of any other team that could have continued to dominate opponents the way jfk did after suffering such a loss. Also consider the density of their final stretch of games.... wednesday thursday and a double header saturday. this shows the depth and capability of their pitching rotation. they ended their streak with 3 complete games from each of their 3 starters... lennox tatnell and modico.

Winning a State Championship is no small feat. Congrats to all three teams. Kennedy might have taken some shots on these blogs throughout the season, but so did Mamaroneck. "They had an easy schedule coming from a inferior league. They had the luxury of pitching Hagan in all their tough games." The fact is, they mowed down 4 "aces" in the sectionals. Went through 2 more aces in the regionals. Knocked out another (and undefeated team) in the State semi's, then took it to Massapequa in the finals. This is a team with one senior starter. That in itself is impressive. Sean Hagan is by all accounts the most talented pitching prospect in Section 1. But you can't over-look Andrew Benkwitt or Eric Windsor. The bats on this team were explosive. Any pitcher who faced them can attest to that. There were no holes in the line-up, one through nine. Their defense was excellent all season. I can't take anything away from the accomplishments of the other teams, but the pride this talented young group of men from Mamaroneck has brought to this community, is more impressive than anything I've seen in many years. Even if it was just the thrill of watching them roll into town last night being escorted down Mamaroneck Ave. and the Boston Post Rd. by an escort of fire trucks, police cars and a few hundred appreciative fans. The pride and the joy of those moments will standout as something so impressive and unforgetable to their school and community. Thank you boys, and Coach Chap. Job well done.

Congrats to Keio and Kennedy for their respective state championships they deserve all the credit in the world, but as impressive as the the above team's championships were, mamaronecks prowess was that much more incredible. First off, Mamaroneck had a very tough road winning the sec playing teams like Carmel (after what happened last year), Arlington, Ketcham, and finally Suffern. Mamaroneck then faced the aces of Vestal (6-0 win), and Minisink (13-3 win) to get the the State Champ semis. They then beat the undefeated, then #1 team in the state (not to mention they are a private school if that has any relevance). If that wasnt enough they then went on to beat the defending state champs (correct me if im wrong) Massapequa. To me whats most impressive is the fact that they have 1 starting senior, 5 starting juniors, and 2 starting sophmores. Not to mention the two starting pitchers on this team are both juniors. They can hit, run, play defense, and pitch. They are one hell of a team, and they made one hell of a run.

In addition to Eric's comments, I also give Kennedy a lot of credit for playing a "compressed" schedule in the state tournament. Playing on Wednesday, Thursday, and two on Saturday had the potential to wear out even the most dominant team. But Kennedy fought to the end and came out with a state title. That's not to take away from what Mamaroneck and Keio have done. I just think that Kennedy had more challenges on the road to their title.
