HV beat Adriondack 14-2 in its opener behind Andrew Benkwitt of Mamaroneck and four RBI days by Anthony Iacomini of John Jay and Mike Orefice of Ketcham (below, rounding third after a two-run HR). HV then lost in extras to Central, but the box hasn’t been posted yet. You can get the results here when they are up.
Tony Pinciaro has a few more details on the game over on our ESG blog.
HV will need to win two — if not all three — of its remaining games if it wants to play for gold.

Matt McGovern was the true hero of this game. He just tormented the pitcher from AD and ran wild on the bases. He completely disrupted the flow of the game. With that, the AD defense fell apart and just could not handle the hot shots off the HV bats. Nice job by Yac. Hit the ball hard all day.
very nice.
describe the loss?
Yock?
Did not stay around for that one. Central had gotten beat by AD in the first game making a lot of mistakes. They must have pulled it togther for the game vs HV. The kid who pitched for AD was a soph who is very highly regarded. He was however, in over his head in this game. The kids from Mam’k are very good players. It was my first time seeing them.
Someone in the state of NY should by new uniforms for these teams. They are aweful and that’s on a fun note.
HV wins the morning game 4-0 behind Bobby Avilas. Not many hits but Yac had one of them. The common occurance so far has been the poor defense. NYC had 4 or 5 errors in this one. The 1st game yesterday between CN and AD was one that CN had 4 or 5 errors. With all the talk about wood bats you would have thought the games would be about a lack of offense not a complete lack of defense. There were 3 or 4 homeruns yesterday with the wood.
The HV defense has been solid so far. Very few mishandled balls.
McGovern and his speed once again played a part in this game as he scored the 1st and winning run stealing 3rd and forcing a throwing error on the catcher.
AD was also a winner this morning moving to 2-1
Your coverage of the baseball tournament stinks!
