College commitments

March
30

OK, I had posted a list of commitments last fall, but I wanted to create a new list for the spring. A few guys have made recent decision, plus a few others have passed along their info recently who weren’t included in the recent list.

Before I get to the new list, let me just say that this has been a banner year for local baseball. I’m still a pretty young guy, but I can’t imagine this area has ever sent more guys onto college ball than it will this fall. Several guys, led by Anthony Iacomini of John Jay, are headed down south, and more than two dozen are bound for Division I programs. It’s truly impressive.

Anyway, if you’re not on the list, email me at jthomson@lohud.com and let me know. Until then, here’s the new master list:

  6. bear

    James De Alto, Briarcliff- Stonehill

  7. Coach B

Big Boy- obviously you are jealous of Hagan. You have no idea what you are talking about. Hagan is a legit pitcher with an upper 80’s fastball with average at best mechanics and idea size. Meaning that he has only tapped the surface of his potential, oh and i forgot he did win a state championship last year.

  8. LoHud Scout

JJEF catcher Alan Filauro has signed a national letter of intent to Guilford Tech Community College. Alan is a very good defensive catcher with a great arm and a good swing and has a bright future if he keeps working hard.

  9. baseball

Isn’t Alan Filauro from JJCR not JJEF?

  10. Coach B

John Swertfager- CW post went to JJCR last year and PG this year at trinity pawling

  11. Big a Boy

Coach B i know my stuff im a scout for the oakland athletics and the mechanics are solid but his stuff is not legit im liking guys like Filice, Steve Green, and Iacomini they roll with the big boys

  12. Curt

That’s incredible to have so many athletes committed to colleges. Congratulations to all of the ball players.

  13. Coach B

Big a boy- your wrong he needs to increase he stride, he has a weak front side and he needs to work on fully finishing his pitches. I agree with you, Green is a tremendous pitcher and Iacomini can really play not taking that away from you but you are dead wrong on Hagan.

  14. ?

Where is Dean College? Never heard of it.

  16. Fannatic

Congrats Mooch (Anthony Muccio) hopefully you bring Iona some luck they need it more than ever.

  17. dick

i talked to filice and he told me he picked that school bc of the money they gave him. I could understand that with whats going on right now its a junior college but a good baseball program. Congrats to u filicee

  18. truth

Maybe if you guys are such great pitching coaches, you should go coach instead of messing around on a blog. Which leads me to believe you are full of it.

  19. dick

i was talking to filice he told me he picked dean bc of the money they gave him. i could understand that with whats going on now in the world. there a junior college but they have a good program. Congrats again filiceee

  20. baseball fan #12

Iona is really going to need help ….didnt reifenhauser leave ?

  21. Curious

Who is the area scout for Oakland? Just curious LOHUD Scout as I’m sure your an associate. You also seem to be a JJ fan. Just for ur info, players do not sign a NLI for JC’s. The NLI is for D1 and D2 schools only and is a binding agreemnet for 1 year. They sign a LI

  22. dick

curious do u understand that is a joke. hes lieing. btw junior colleges do sign NLI

  23. big

curous. just to let u know thats a joke. and junior colleges do sign nation letter of intent.

  24. sgsdgsd

i just want to say congrats all you guys playing college baseball best of luck to all of you.

  25. Ketcham

Ketcham defeated a scrappy Saunders team today 7-1. The Indians left something like 12 men on base in this. Saunders actually had a bid to tie the game at 4-4 stopped by a tremendous catch by the Ketcham CF Peters. Peters had to climb a hill in CF to rob the Saunders SS of a 3 run HR. Brian Quain started , pitched 5 and gave up an unearned run for Ketcham. Donald Fisher pitched 2 strong in relief. Ketcham now headed to Florida where I believe they scrimmage JJCR on the last day they are there.

  26. factoid

Do not listen to the ass LoHud Scout. He is the idiot who said the big semi-coordinated kid on Stepinac is the “best” pitcher and hitter in section 1….The kid with very little control of his fastball with the angry temper.

the kid is not even the 1 or 2 on stepinac and will probably never swing the bat this season at all unless as a pinch hotter in ab;ow out game.

pro scout my ass….sounds like a relative to me.

  27. Jayfan

Good job Quainnie. See you down in Orlando.

  28. jw

when is this baseball preview coming out josh?

  29. Bob 707

Yes i’m looking forward to that. And Filauro is JJCR not EF

  30. Bob 707

That SS from Hen Hud must be going somewhere. Another kid ive seen that I think should play college ball is Gaston Rojas from Carmel. I saw him play twice this summer and the ball flew off his bat.

  31. Josh Thomson

    jw…The baseball preview drops Friday.

Bob 707…Both T.J. Olesczuk and Rojas are juniors.

  32. Bill 707

    Thanks Josh

  33. Mountaineer

From what i hear Cardona has committed to BC- Boston College

  34. Josh Thomson

Mountaineer…Not from what I heard and I talked to his coach today.

  35. Brewster Bears

Josh you have Greg Galasso going to Keene State, Greg Galasso graduated last year and is playing football at West Conn, you meant to say Greg Devaux is commited to Keene St. Not a problem, your just human Josh

    Go bears

  36. mamo student

Max Frankel on mamaroneck will be playing ball at Vassar next year

  37. Josh Thomson

    Brewster…I fixed it. Thanks.

  38. Stepinac Ulumni

Iona college is terrible right now but give them a year or two they are very young. And there is only one way to go from where they are now and that is up. Good Luck Mooch you will do great there with Capowski.

  39. HRs

Josh I though Zlotnick was going to Vermont?

  40. Coach B

    vermont dropped their program

  41. HRs

Coach B.. thanks for the info. I just read about it online.

  42. Because

Iona College could be the worst D1 program in the country. Look for baseball to follow football

  43. baseball fan

Josh what do you think of that kid rojas from carmel? What kind of potential is there?

  44. carmel up in this

rojas is a big strong kid that has alot of potential. he looks like a man child at the plate but needs to put it all together. once he does, he’ll be a section 1 force

  45. FACTOID AKA WOW

DIFFERENT NAME, DIFFERENT BLOG. NO MATTER HOW YOU DISGUISE IT, IT IS STILL THE GREEN EYED MONSTER

  46. Mountaineer

Cardona has several offers from colleges. He has the opportunity to go play Division 1 baseball at NYIT, St. Johns, UConn, Farleigh Dickinson, Boston College, Alabama A&U, and Albany. In addition there is speculation that Cardona may be drafted by several organizations which include the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Clevland Indians, and New York Mets.
