Class AA
No. 5 Fox Lane at No. 1 Mamaroneck: Exactly what you expected is exactly what Fox Lane has shown. In two playoff games the Foxes have 26 runs on 25 hits, including 14 for extra bases, and 17 walks. With eight regulars slugging .600 or better for the season, they look a lot like what Mamurdaneck looked like in 2008-09. In fact, during those two state championship seasons Mamaroneck knocked Fox Lane out of the postseason. Outside of their ballpark, they can be stopped by a true ace. But does Mamaroneck have that guy? In a fun game, I think Fox Lane wins. Prediction: Fox Lane
No. 3 Arlington at No. 2 Ketcham: Dutchess County’s Big 3 of Ketcham, Arlington, and John Jay-EF has been so good that I’m glad the Class AA final breaks down the way it does. The two best Westchester teams are in one semifinal and the two best Dutchess teams are in the other. So the final will pit the two county representatives against each other. Ketcham already won twice vs Arlington so why not a third? Prediction: Ketcham
Class A
No. 21 Port Chester at No. 16 Somers: Every time I look at Port Chester’s name in the schedule I think it’s a typo. How did the Rams make it this far? Before a 7-3 win over Harrison on May 21, the Rams hadn’t held an opponent under four runs since Rye Neck on April 15. But since that confidence-inducing Harrison win, pitchers Christian Nichols and D.J. Sabato have helped them do it twice in the playoffs. Somers, despite the seed, is a less implausible story, because the Tuskers had shown flashes during the regular season. Coach Joe Wootten has been through the wars and brings a quiet confidence to his young team. Prediction: Somers
No. 11 Tappan Zee at No. 7 Harrison: Dropping three of four to close the regular season, the Husky title hopes were shrinking. A year after losing the final to Lakeland, was this team that much better that it could dethrone the Hornets? But then No. 1 Lakeland and No. 3 Pearl River got knocked out, Harrison beat No. 2 Kennedy, and just like that the Huskies are title favorites. Amazing what a difference a couple days makes. I’m curious what pitching strategy they’ll use against Ryan O’Rourke and a TZ lineup that’s posted 31 runs in three playoff games. Do you start Brian Lobel on full rest or Max Bruckner on three days? I have a weird feeling that TZ is going to avenge last year’s 12-0 quarterfinal shellacking. Prediction: Tappan Zee
Class B
No. 9 Albertus Magnus at No. 4 Briarcliff: For most of the season it felt like something was missing from Briarcliff. I’d picked the Bears in preseason as a contender but losses to Croton, Saunders, and Ossining gave me pause. But they closed well, and now have won 10 in a row. While runs are still too dependent on John Fussell’s .500 bat, co-aces Paul Henshaw and Josh Miller have been superb. Albertus has gotten here behind the bats of Casey Kern and Brandon Ballane. It’s also gotten here by the skin of its teeth. Both playoff wins were by one run. Miller won’t let it get into that woolly 9-run range where anyone can win. Prediction: Briarcliff
No. 3 Hastings at No. 2 Valhalla: In two playoff games, the Vikings already have more runs (32) than they did in the seven-game playoff run of last year. Never did they plate more than six during that entire state run. It’s incredible when you look back on it. This may be the same personnel but it’s obviously a different team. Between the Cassinellis and Mark DeMilio and John Meany and everybody else, these guys can score six runs in an inning no problem. Hastings, no slouches with the sticks, will have a hard time keeping up. Its best hope is that Andrew McGowan paralyzes the bats or a couple of its own fly balls float over Valhalla’s short right field wall. Prediction: Valhalla

Jake picking against Mamaroneck. Did you start drinking early today?
Jake is definitely still foggy from the weekend picking FL over MAMARONECK…
Jake mamk with no ace? Wallach 6-0 williams 7-0 both with eras under 2.5. Sounds like 2 aces to me
Jake, what game will you be at today? A lot of good games on tap for the day.
Jakey boy keep picking against the dirty birds. We LOVE it! Fussell will not see a pitch, so all the other Briarcliff boys better get ready to hit. The Falcons will be aggressive and come out blazing. Year of the dogs baby. Time to go put on the radio and blast KABBBBOOMM BOOOM BOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mamo has a very good lineup. Just as good as fox lane. Mamo’s wallach and williams both can dominate a game. Both are true aces. Does fox lane have a true ace to shut down mamo’s offense?
from what i understand harrison just had that one big hit against kennedy and the other runs were gifts. harrison can only rely on their one pitcher bruckner after that they have nothing. bruckner struggled against kennedy and got some good breaks, kennedys bat really didnt show up for that game which cost them. its too bad because harrison will not last long after today and the better team will not be playing TZ.
FL Mamo game could be a classic. Get out your calculators, could be a lot of runs scored in this one. Both have deep hitting lineups, and the pitching is also quite good on both teams. Look forward to seeing this one.
Huh? Look at the box score and MSG Varsity. Harrison had 9 hits. On MSG, #2 Jacobson hit one to the wall for a double to drive in #1 Pollock. Lovinger’s blast got out so quickly the camera could not keep up with it. If kennedy’s bats did not show up, did you ever think about giving the pitcher credit? A lot of good teams are out and anything can happen in one game, but I like Harrison’s experience. TZ will remember last year’s 12-0 loss. If Harrison comes out quickly, TZ may fold. If it’s a game for awhile, anything can happen.
Harrison 6
Tappan Zee 2
Port Chester 9
Somers 8
Valhalla has a short right field fence not left field, with only one lefty in the line up with any pop (Jason Dillon) it really does not favor them.
I have seen a lot of right handed hitters hit the ball over the right field fence at Valhalla. Both teams have the same fence, so on any given day, it is equal. However, like Fox Lane and Greeley, it does add to the yearly overall stats for the home team.
Mamaroneck Fox Lane game will be interesting. It will just come down to which team will have the player that carries his team to victory. With home field advantage I am going to say Mamaroneck 6 Fox Lane 5.
I can’t argue with Jake’s FL pick – they have a very powerful line-up. The Tigers will need everything they’ve got to move forward.
Fox Lane is a good team but Mamaroneck is Mamaroneck. They are just too tough. Fox Lane will bring a solid effort but ultimately fall a little short.
Tappan Zee over Harrison is a sexy pick but I think the Huskies are on a mission after losing in last year’s final and their embarrassing weekend with losses to Rye and Port Chester. That woke them up a little.
I agree with westchester61. I’ll go with experience, although both games could go either way.
FL!!!! Yea buddyyyyy….they goin pull off the upsets in a hostile environment
Its a sad day in Falconville. The dirty birds lose 4-1. Had the tying run at the plate but Briarcliff snagged a liner to end it. Kudos to this team. They play excellent “D” and the pticher just pumped strikes. Go out and win it tomorrow boys.
Great season overall for AM. Went a lot further than people thought you would. Congrats to all the seniors who leave us. 2011 season is now done. A huge KAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMM to end it. See you next year!
jake got all the picks right yesterday. Good job.
