Well, this rain has really put a damper in my plans for this week. My plan was to cover Harrison at Rye today, and New Ro at Mamaroneck on Thursday. When I found out that Harrison-Rye pushed their game back to Thursday, I figured I would cover New Ro-Mamaroneck today so that I could still see both. Of course, that game has been pushed back as well. I went down the list trying to find a game to go to, but it seems like most have been postponed.
So far, I have confirmed that the following games will not be played today. In parenthesis, I put when the games have been rescheduled for:
Harrison at Rye (Thursday at 4:30 p.m.)
Mamaroneck at New Rochelle (Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.)
Nanuet at Albertus Magnus (Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Nanuet. They’ll play at Magnus on Thursday at 4 p.m.)
Clarkstown South at North Rockland (Wednesday at 4 p.m. Location TBD.)
Bronxville at Pelham (May 16 at 4:30 p.m.)
If you know of any other postponements, please post them in the comments section. I don’t anticipate many games being played today.
I’m going to be at Yankee Stadium to cover the Yankees tomorrow night, which forces me to make a difficult choice on Thursday. My plan is going to be to cover New Rochelle at Mamaroneck, and then do some blogging on the Harrison at Rye game after I speak to the winning coach.
As I hear of more postponements, I’ll update on Twitter @vzmercogliano.
UPDATE, 2:01 p.m.: Nanuet-Albertus Magnus have switched their game to Nanuet HS today so that they can get it in. They will play at 4 p.m.
UPDATE, 3:25 p.m.: The Irvington at Gorton game has also been postponed until tomorrow at 4 p.m.
My original plan was to wait until the end of the week to release my new Power Rankings to see how some of these games turned out. Now, I’m thinking I may post them either tonight or tomorrow afternoon since things should be slow in the next 24 hours. I’ll make the announcement on Twitter when they’re ready.

Vin is there anyway you will do rankings again soon? Half the season is done already, teams have 9 or 10 games left. Give us your halfway through the season rankings.
Section 1 Guy,
As I said in the live chat, my original plan was to release the Power Rankings at the end of the week because I wanted to see how certain games played out. But with the rain, I’m thinking I’ll either post them tonight or tomorrow afternoon. Stay tuned.
Top 10 by reguardless of class
Rck
Jjef
Briarcliff
Mamo
Foxlane
Mahopac
North rockland
Carmel
Pearl river
Suffern
Lets see how i match up
How exactly do you rank teams? Is it based on how they would fare in a single game with their ace on the mound or how they would fare in a 3 game series? In HS baseball it isn’t doesn’t really make sense to base it on a single game. Teams should be ranked based on starting lineup, pitching depth and bench depth. At least that is my opinion.
here’s my list – and agree with EdC – you have to go on balance. No one win, or one loss should count that much – it is HS baseball after all. And so:
Mahopac – yes for real, no one wants them in sections
Fox Lane – finally getting their footing
Mamo – maybe, but next week will tell
N. Rockland – deep and will improve
JJEF – seem to lack something but clearly talented
RCK – long on pitching, little else
Briarcliff – strong team but overall sched weak
Suffern – well coached and building momentum
New Ro – up year and dangerous if defense holds
final spot: pearl river, arlington, white plains, carmel pick’em
Dom…what part of Mahopac are you from ?
I also agree with EdC on depth and balance, but can we please wait for “THE PAC” to be challenged before we put them on a pedestal.
2 wins against North Salem ???
Lourdes ???
Put Valley ???
Lakeland ???
Carmel ???
I remember Mahopac bloggers pounding their chest after going 1-0-1 against JJCR…Is that the same JJCR team that just got spanked by Brewster 13-2. The same Brewster team that just got spanked by Arlington 19-0 a couple of days ago.
I need to see Mahopac put up some W’s against some Dutchess teams (other than Lourdes) before we put them on top.
Even in a down year for RCK, JJEF, and Arlington, I’m sure all three will give Mahopac more than they can handle. Pound for pound, JJEF is probably the strongest of the three.
They pitch, play solid D (strong up the middle), and know how to push runs across. RCK lacks experience (not starting pitching). Mealy knows how to win (with or without Seth on the mound). Arlington lacks leadership (not talent). They just need to put it all together.
I’m very happy for Kernan and the season he’s having. He’s a great kid. I still feel the ‘PAC is a year away with that staff.
PAC pride, PAC fan, PAC man, PAC of chest beaters… Enjoy it for now!!! It’s all down hill from here.
hey AHS …at the end of the day with your 5000 kids you have never won anything . oops sorry ..girls soccor wasnt it …lets see how it pans out in the end …thats what counts ..
Mahopac- no one wants them in the sections.
This is true but not because no one wants to play them, it’s because their fans are so annoying.
pac pride get out. go with your crew. you condescending arrogant pathetic little man. bet
Ha – yes their fans are the least liked in the area – or up there with Harrison which is tough to do.
AHS – I am not from mahopac – am just a bit farther south. But I have seen a lot of these kids through the years and know they have a lot of talent. But of course it all remains to be seen come playoff time.
I would say that I am among those who don’t buy into this whole myth of dutchess county supremacy. Lots of talent there too, but most continuous chest beating is from up north.
Don’t remember beating my chest. I do however remember saying this is a down year for all 3 (RCK, JJEF, and Arl.). As far as “Supremacy”, I don’t think it will take that much to beat the mighty Indians.
I just feel that I am in the majority when I say “ENOUGH” from the Mahopac parents.
Pride…It’s 3000, and you spell soccer with an E, not an O.
I Love a good hate !!!
Briarcliff is a better team with more depth than any Westchester/Putnam team.. I don’t know about the Dutchess teams yet.
AHS…You conveniently left off JJCR, Brewster and Somers. What a coincidence you wouldn’t mention the tougher teams the ‘Pac has beaten so far. Funny, but the Dutchess losses are all not against each other. Looks like they are tough, just like every year, but beatable. What, other than the fact that you obviously dislike the Mahopac team and parents, makes you think we can’t beat your almighty Dutchess teams? Do you realize we actually are the most qualified to beat the “big three” this year? Can’t you bring yourself to accept that this team is, in fact, firing on all cylinders? And stop prequalifying that the northern teams are having “down years” this season. Mahopac has beaten RCK with Lamando on the mound for the last two years. Do you realize how difficult and unlikely that is? He will likely pitch in the majors someday. Personally, I think he is off the chart with talent and wish him all the best. He threw a one hitter at them last season and Mahopac found a way to win. That Mahopac team, though very talented also, was not undefeated 12 games into the season. Why don’t you merely give credit where it is due and stop being so jealous. These kids work hard and it’s paying off. Live with it.
My top ten Rankings:
Mamo
Ketcham
JJEF
Mahopac
Briarcliff
Fox Lane
New Ro
North Rock
Suffern
Kennedy
‘Pac fan,
Wow you guys are annoying. I notice that you never answered my question, “when was the last time Mahopac actually beat Arlington in a baseball game?” – probably because you can’t remember. Arlington was about 15-0 last year before their first loss and you never heard a thing on the blog. do you know why? because it means absolutely nothing. Why are you bragging about wins over Brewster and JJCR? Did you see the Arlington – Brewster score over the weekend? – and then Brewster beat JJCR? Different worlds. That said, congratulations on a nice start. It must be nice to finally not be overshadowed by your lacrosse team.
concerned citizen…When a perennial powerhouse like Arlington goes 15-0, who is really surprised? Obviously the program is always strong because of the much larger well they draw from. When a Mahopac team with just a small handful of returners, who everyone assumed was likely to be a .500 team, is undefeated this far into the season, that’s pretty noteworthy. You can’t possibly disagree with that. So, relax, and root for a group of kids that work really hard and are seeing their efforts pay off.
Concerned: You shouldn’t discriminate. Pac Fan’s not so bad. Pac Pride is really annoying.
This “chest beating” by Pac must be a town thing. Same thing was going on over on the hockey blog until Mamo spanked them the the regular season and thumped them in the playoffs…
Its not how you start, its how you finish – see the NY Giants on that one….
Nose Reyes is correct,
Mahopac played a weak schedule in hockey, mamak was not supposed to be strong this year in hockey. Mamk wound up beating them twice and ended their season in the playoffs, but before that the PAC bloggers thought they were going to west point.
Seems like the same thing in baseball. Mahopac seems to be overly excited over winning over mostly marginal teams. They’re probably a good team, but I doubt they make it to the championship game. Alot of these regular season games depend on who’s pitching on a given day. So it’s not surprising to see fox lane beat excellent teams, and lose to mediocre teams. I’m guessing their pitching doesn’t have alot of depth. But then again, who’s pitching does?
Nose Reyes…Yes, it’s how you finish. But, with all due respect, have you ever heard a team that is undefeated use that phrase while they are winning? Everyone is correct: anything can happen on any given day. Favorites get beat, underdogs have great days and prevail. That’s understood. Yes, ask the Giants. Yes, ask the Patriots. But these kids are working hard and winning, day in, day out, no matter who is on the mound. They are also all contributing, not just the main core of the team, but even the bench players. Anything can happen in a playoff scenario, but let’s not minimize the entire season performance. Championship is obviously the goal, but the road there can and should also be lauded.
FishHead…For the record, even if you throw out every other team in the section other than the big three Dutchess schools, one of those elite teams aren’t making the championship game either. Does that mean nobody can take pride in their season unless they win the whole thing? This is high school baseball, not pro. Though they all love to play, this is unfortunately the conclusion of baseball for the vast majority of our fine student athletes. Let’s not diminish their accomplishments with petty jealousy and ill will. Let’s give them all, top to bottom, their moment in the sun.
Arlington, like Catholic schools, should be great every year because they have talent pools to choose from. Arlington has 4000 kids so they should have a stud at every position. JFK has kids with religions other than Catholic go there because of their program ! It’s not rocket science. Schools like these field travel teams while others are like rec teams with one or two studs…also, I like the fact that Mahopac fans and players talk so much smack on here. It makes it more fun because now they have a target on them. And they are beatable. Lakeland gave them a win because of errors in a game the Hornets should have won. Mahopac knows how to play on their horrible field. They’re used to it. That infield is full of rocks and bumps.
Fourforty2…Just like life, full of rocks and bumps. Yes, Lakeland didn’t help themselves. But Mahopac has had some defensive issues, too. The difference is they have been able to overcome them and win games despite some mishaps. Even in their tie with JJCR, a couple of errors erased a 5-0 lead in the fifth. But they were able to fight that off and walk away with a tie, not a loss. And that was on their “horrible field.” You are also right about talking smack. These kids have earned that target on their backs by hard work and good baseball. Love them or hate them you have to respect them. Hmmm…respect…a little word often forgot by many of the bloggers here. How about we all collectively root for some good baseball and leave it at that.
Pac fan
Enough with “Root for a group of kids that work really hard”. Is Mahopac the only team in the area that works hard ??? I doubt it.
They are a group of kids beating teams they should be beating. Let’s see if they are working harder than the big 3.
I would dare say there is no one on this blog that has any “petty jealously” toward Pac. Good on these kids for getting off to a good start. However, the spouting off about how wonderful these kids are because they work so hard is enough already. Every team works hard and and puts in countless hours of practice.
Also, any remotely critical remark about the team’s performance or level of competiton is met with a ridiculous amount of over protestation by the Pac faithful. Criticism of this nature appears to be akin to act of heresy in the eyes of the Pac boosters.
Lighten up Francis… its a baseball blog
I don’t think anyone fears mahopac. Just my opinion. More fear of jjef. Mamk. Fox lane. Arlington. North rockland.
You’re missing my point. Of course all the kids work hard. That is why we shouldn’t criticize the teams that struggle for a single win. By the same token, you shouldn’t criticize the teams that haven’t lost. I don’t begrudge any other team, I just take pride in our team. Just like you take pride in your team. You never hear me slam another team or attack their schedule or record. It is the naysayers who disrespect teams like N. Salem or Lourdes that you should be annoyed with. All this talk from AHS, FishHead, etc., seems a lot more arrogant than me and the other Mahopac faithful rooting for our team. LIke I said earlier, our team was generally predicted to be a .500 team this season. That hasn’t been the case, and that makes us proud. What you think basically doesn’t really matter. They may come to Dutchess and win, or they may lose, but they’re coming to play hard.
by the way, I like the “Stripes” reference. Great movie!
