You’ll probably see me write this a few times this year, but League II-B is going to be very competitive this season. It looks wide open between perennial favorite Mamaroneck, a New Rochelle team that brings back a lot of key pieces from last year’s Class AA quarterfinals squad, and up-and-coming White Plains (and Scarsdale is no slouch, either). WP came in third last year behind Mamo and New Ro, respectively, but the Tigers were very young. Now, they return more starters than any other team in the league who have valuable varsity experience, which makes them dangerous.
Here are the responses I received from coach Marcel Galligani:
How did the team do last season? 11-11. Outbracket win over Ramapo, 3-1; loss to RCK in the first round.
Who are your top returning players? Kyle Adams, Sr. C; Cameron Crabbe, Jr., OF (pictured to the right); Chris Medeot, Jr., P/OF; Lukas Repetti, Jr., P; Juan Payero, Sr., P/IF; Sean Nicholson, Jr., P/IF; Kevin Nicholson, Sr., P/IF; Tommy Bertram, IF.
Who are the top players that you lost to graduation? Stephen Schiavone, P/IF (playing at RPI) and Eric Smiley.
What is your team’s biggest strength? Pitching depth.
How do you feel about your pitching entering the season? Confident. Have a deep group of arms that have valuable varsity experience.
Your lineup? TBD.
What is the No. 1 key for your team to accomplish its goals this season? Offensive consistency throughout the lineup.
Which team(s) is your biggest rival? Mamaroneck, New Ro and Scarsdale. We play some tough league games.
When is your opening game? April 2 at home vs. Sleepy Hollow.
