OK, everyone. Take a deep breath. As expected, the quarterfinals have been postponed once again today. They have been rescheduled for Saturday, which would push the semifinals to Tuesday (Section 1 has decided that no games can be played on Sunday or Monday). In that scenario, the finals would likely be on Wednesday or Thursday, but there has been no official word on that yet.
The main reason that they aren’t carving any plans in stone yet is because they are preparing for the possibility of another washout on Saturday. The forecast isn’t good for tomorrow, either, and I’m being told that the quarters ultimately could be pushed until Tuesday. In that case, the semis would be on Wednesday, with the finals likely on Thursday or Friday. The only game that is unaffected is the Class C final, which is still scheduled for Tuesday at Provident Bank Park.
I’m kind of hoping that we can get the games in tomorrow, because that will give me a chance to see a few quarterfinals in the same day. As you can see, the start times are scattered. Check back tomorrow morning for word on whether the quarters will be played, but your best bet is to follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano for news as it breaks.
Here is what the schedule looks like for Saturday:
No. 9 Mamaroneck at No. 1 North Rockland, 1 p.m.
No. 7 Ketcham at No. 2 White Plains, 11 a.m.
No. 6 Clarkstown North at No. 3 Fox Lane, 11 a.m.
No. 5 John Jay-EF at No. 4 Arlington, 1 p.m.
No. 8 Somers at No. 1 Tappan Zee, 2 p.m.
No. 7 Byram Hills at No. 2 Sleepy Hollow, 10:30 a.m.
No. 6 John Jay at No. 3 Eastchester, 4 p.m.
No. 5 Pelham at No. 4 Beacon, 11 a.m.
No. 9 Irvington at No. 1 Rye Neck, 11 a.m.
No. 10 Albertus Magnus at No. 2 North Salem, 3 p.m.
No. 6 Ardsley vs. No. 3 Lourdes at Stitzel Field, 2 p.m.
No. 5 Briarcliff at No. 4 Pleasantville, 4:30 p.m.
UPDATE, 7:30 p.m.: I just got home from dinner (Outback Steakhouse, for those who are interested), and I have confirmed with co-section coordinator Phil DiRuocco that the decision has been made to postpone all Class A quarterfinals until Tuesday. Apparently, a few of the Class A fields have already been deemed unplayable. DiRuocco said the decisions for Classes AA and B will be made tomorrow morning, but most coaches are telling me that they don’t expect to play. I’ll update in the morning, but my guess is that we won’t see any games until Tuesday.
