It didn’t come easy, but Mamaroneck earned the Class AA title with an 8-6 win over top-seeded Ketcham on Saturday at Provident Bank Park.
The Tigers had an 8-0 lead after five innings, but the defending champs wouldn’t go down quietly. The Indians rallied to knock Jason Kreinces out of the game — who had delivered in a big way with five scoreless innings to begin the game — with both Bill Flatow and Kumar Nambiar coming in on two days’ rest to stop the bleeding. But in the end, Mamaroneck held on to win its first championship since 2009.
Andy Karlan and Peter Matt both tripled for the Tigers, while Nambiar, Andrew Sommer, Andy Gross, Anthony Pecora and Emerson Genovese each had at least one RBI. Justin Squarzini, Tim Zehnbauer, Stephen Merrill, Nick Simmons and Nick Shepheard each had an RBI for Ketcham in the wild sixth inning.
Mamaroneck’s championship ended a four-year run of the title residing in Dutchess County. Arlington won back-to-back titles in 2012-13, with Ketcham winning in ’11 and ’14.
