Aside from the MLB Draft, it’s been a quiet few days in the #lohudbaseball world. But that’s about to change drastically starting on Thursday. We have three local teams still alive and competing for titles this weekend, and we’ll be covering each one.
Here’s what to look for coverage-wise in the coming days. You can also follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano to keep up with what’s happening.
Salesian: After landing in the CHSAA AA Division Championship Series for the first time in school history, the Eagles will begin their best-of-three series against Monsignor Farrell at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Fordham University. I’ll be there to cover Game 1 and I’ll have a story coming earlier in the day about just how far Salesian has come in the last few years.
Byram Hills: I’ll be visiting Mamaroneck HS later this afternoon when the Tigers will be hosting Byram for a scrimmage to keep the only two teams remaining from Section 1 sharp. I’ll grab some interviews and have a feature story in Thursday’s paper that will take a closer look at how the Bobcats have risen to become one of the more consistent teams in the area after years of mediocrity. I’ll also have a scouting report for Byram’s Class A state semifinal against Section 8 champ Division, which will be played at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Maine-Endwell HS.
Mamaroneck: I’ll also be interviewing some of the Tigers today for a story that will run in Friday’s paper about Mamaroneck finally catching up to the larger-than-life figures from its back-to-back state titles in 2008-09. This year’s team has been able to escape that shadow and carve out its own legacy. The Tigers will play Section 11 champ Connetquot in the Class AA state semis at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Union-Endicott HS. Of course, I’ll be in Binghamton this weekend to follow all of the action.
