There is nothing the critics can tag Mamaroneck with anymore. The Tigers are the kings of Section 1. They might be one of the greatest local champions of all time. How many Class AA teams went 24-1 against the section, won the title easily, 12-1, and had as rough a bracket as Mamaroneck?

Oh baby! This is it, what the whole season’s been building to. Everything after sectionals is a bonus. Lose in the first round of states and you’ll still always be able to say you were better than the teams you played all year. There are some fantastic matchups here, especially in the big classes.

March 2003. He began working for the Gannett weeklies during the winter of
2002 as a freelance writer. He joined the daily staff soon after and has
since covered various high school and pro sports. Away from sportswriting,
Josh lives in Westchester and spends his free time either with his
fiancee, Sarah, or expertly managing his various championship-winning
fantasy sports teams. He's visited 21 major-league baseball stadiums and
insists that Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are the best by far. Josh
